TMC Trucking Company

by Drifter2007 » Jan. 18, 11:42 pm

Did anybody hear any information on TMC Trucking? TMC Trucking is a flatbed carrier. I will be finishing up school soon and I am thinking about going to work for this company.

I used to run into their drivers on a daily basis, and really heard no complaints on them. They run top of the line equipment, and they supply their drivers with the tools to do the job. A personal observation of mine, is that they seemed to take care in the drivers they hire. They all seemed to be professional, and presentable, and without some of the attitude problems I saw with other carriers of any size.

I was working with TMC but the company want not for me. TMC is probably a great company for a lot of drivers. Also, they have excellent equipment and complimented by great pay. TMC expectations is too high and not humanly or legally possible.

TMC is a great company and I hope a buddy of mine will be able to get into their Northeast dedicated that they are opening up. That would be great. They're a house carrier out of Norwood, MA now which is right around the corner from us. Very Very pretty trucks....

I shuttled their trucks for a while to the repair and detail shops from their sales lots. They use Pete 379's and 387's now. They had bought out a company called KTL and are currently phasing out their old equipment so you may run into a few freightliners and kw t600's. A buddy of mine signed on and never made it through the 6 week training for flatbed loads. He had issues with the manor in which the instructors would talk to him. However that could be an isolated instructor also. I have one of their terminals in my home town and have never heard any negative comments from them. However I do see drives leave their trucks at the terminal and walk away about once or twice every 2 weeks. As a driver we all know that just could be an argument over home time or anything. We are temper mental people at times.

The only thing I have heard is that they are kinda militaristic when it comes to the condition of the truck. Not saying that's a bad thing. It needs to be taken care of. I just heard they get carried away at times. I don't recall seeing a dirty one and I've seen a LOT of TMC trucks on the road and loading at the same places I was. I heard they PAY for you to get a shower EVERYDAY!! That, in my opinion, is great. I know nothing about the miles they get, why people have quit them, or how they talk to you. I just know the equipment is WELL taken care of and you stay clean.

TMC has no respect for their drivers. You will be treated very poorly. I would like to know the turnover rate. They say they will get you home every weekend and they do. I just hope you dont mind starting your weekend at 6:00 pm on saturday. Equipment is great though.

TMC Trucking

by Detroit Muscle » Aug. 15, 4:12 pm

I have been talking with TMC drivers all over and the only complaint they have had is tarping pay. I guess they think the $10 is kind of a joke. Other than that its all been good news. I'm leaving in 3 days to go to their orientation in Des Moines. I'll come back and tell you what I think.

Im leaving a small outfit here in detroit becuase my checks are short and theese people have no respect for the law, the driver, or even their own equipment. I am 5mos into the trucking industry and wanted to be home often. This was the fast answer with no experience. I am lucky Im still alive. Anyways Ill be sure to reply about everything that happens with TMC from start to finish. Im a straight shooter, honest and hard working and that is the type of company ill stay at, C'Mon

TMC's training course is 6weeks on the road so you won't have more home time with them at all!! lol I hired a driver of mine straight from TMC. He wanted to get home more than just every weekend or should I say "every saturday morning" All in all. A very highly respected company who has an impecccable image.

T M C

by Detroit Muscle » Sep. 01, 11:07 am

I just finished orientation and my first week of training with TMC. I had 6 mos dry van experience and 57000 miles. If you are not a weak minded individual and are willing to play by the rules you will enjoy orientation. The most important thing is dont lie on your application about anything. And make sure your medical records are up to snuff. They do not play around when it comes to sending someone home on a greyhound if they are shady. I have two more weeks of training, and I got home Friday night at 7:00 pm. I have witnessed that this company will conform to your needs as long as you get the job done. If you dont want to work long and hard then dont waste your time. As far as the equipment goes I cant even beleive how nice it is. I was rolling through PA, WV, TN, And KY at 79550 lbs and I could barely tell that I was Heavy. Personally I like everything about TMC and am proud to work for them, so far. Any questions let me Know

TMC

by Merlin » Sep. 15, 10:37 pm

I worked for TMC and like any company they have thier good and bad points but over all they are a great company and all their drivers are proud employees. You must make sure you want to work hard to be there because TMC takes business seriously and they take load securement very very seriously. Yes the instructors will treat you like garbage but its only 2 weeks and all of the trainers i ever met were very kool, mine was Max Nessen anyone who gets him is getting an excellent trainer and will have alot of fun while learning the job. I was forced to leave due to a dying familly member and TMC let me go because i could not give them a definate date of return and that is too bad for me because tho i wasnt there long i was a very proud employee. They will take excellent care of you trust me its worth the time if ur not afraid of work!!!

Im 3 mos deep with TMC. I can tell you that if you dont have a backbone, you will not like it. There are some great fleet managers and there are some terrible ones. If you get a bad one then you FIRE him.
If you need to be home, you tell them you are going home one way or another and watch yourself magically get a load home. you have got to be strong minded and make them work for you. I love working for TMC.
They are tough and so am I. Are you?

tmc training

by westflorida » Jan. 19, 2:45 pm

Im with cypress and Im think going over to tmc, one their equipment is top of the line, and cypress trucks are the worst. Not just that cypress is more like a driver factory they always getting school grads training them for about six weeks and then give them the worst truck in the universe and give them about 1500 miles, then they'll quit another one comes on and thats the same over and over again. I have over 10 years experience all local, Ive been with cypress a little over 6 months asked them for a better truck at least with more room, they will allways have an excuse to tell you no. My question is I now have 6 months flatbed & otr experience plus almost 12 years of tractor trailer experience will I still have to go through 6 weeks of training at tmc or just the orientation and how long is the orientation itself if anyone knows please let me know thanks

I have questions for TMC drivers

by SSBG » Jan. 22, 5:54 pm

If I chose to be home 46 out of 52 weekends what is the realistic income can I expect? Can you switch from percentage to mileage? How? Per Diem? How does it work and what exactly is it? Sorry for all the questions but I am a (all my ducks in a row type of guy). This may also be a very premature thing on my part but I won't learn anything if I don't ask! :?

We just had a rep from TMC come into our school yesterday (who was ex driver), and he said majority of their drivers go with percentage pay (starts at 24%, after 3 years 32%). That's nice commission, but if you had your own truck.?

Their trucks are governed at 65mph, and said most companies that's the case (65 governed speed). Seems like a good company to start with to get some miles under the belt

I've seen a lot of TMC trucks on the road here in "The Bikini", and recently a few "Covered Wagons". I drove for Metal untill they went out of business. Does anyone know if TMC had a Covered Wagon Division?

Hey a fellow Metal driver! I actually like them. But on to something at TMC that needs to be mentioned.

First and foremost they have great equipment. I worked for a family friend who was an o/o and he used to buy old TMC rigs.Classy even i used.I loved my truck ( liked the new one better lol but anyway) I would and could drive for these guys, but I have one problem.

While filling out the application they have the whole medical history page.It looks like you have to fill this out.I never did and noticed nothing had an astrisk next to it stating it was mandatory. To any driver filling this out. DO NOT DO IT!!!!! It is a violation of the HIPPA law. They have no right to ask you about any medical condition. Thats between you and the doc. Plus if you have a condition that wont allow you to pass the physical its not their problem. Its yours. I had to get a 3 month card due to my triglycerides being through the roof. But the people I was working for never aske why it was a 3 month card. They were happy when I retested and got my full card.Hell so was I lol.

In the end dont be bullied. That goes for any company. But if you want to run nice trucks and can take a Marine Corps atitude then this is a good place. I just cant understand why they ask for stuff protected under law.

Re: TMC Trucking

Here is what to expect at tmc,, How do i know because i made the mistake driving for them ,,, You will constantly be pushed by disptach to deliver 5 loads during the week days,, they preach this in orientation that this is the only way to make money at tmc.
You will not get much sleep during the week, On average the length of haul is 400 to 500 miles . You deliver first thing in the morning,, then reload and drive all night to deliver the next morning ,, so when do you sleep thats a good question. If you go to des moines and the inside of your truck is dirty they will write you up.. And if you get paid by percentage your pay will not be consitent because their precentage pay is based on your fuel mileage , idle time out of route, So if you dont like to sleep and if you like to be constantly pushed beyond your limit,, then tmc is the place for you ,,

Re: TMC Trucking Company

You can work for TMC "too much chrome" if you want but I dont recomend it. I was loading steel next to a company driver trying to get me to sign on. My load went to Lancing, MI and his went to Grand Rapids. My load paid over 1300.00 and he said his load paid 750.00. He was going furthur than I was.
There was no doubt in my mind that TMC told him the load paid 750.00 when it paid more like 1400.00. I told him so and he ponderd the thought. I would have quit. Remember, when you work for percentage, the load only pays what the company says it pays. It leaves a lot of room for "adjustment".
There needs to be disclousure when it comes to freight rates so the DRIVER knows what the load actually paid.
Drivers are getting ripped off at TMC.
I hope the one I talked to quit. :(
