My friend, Jack, has worked for this company for 11 years. He said that Schneider is an excellent company and has been for years. He said the only problem that he saw with the company was with driver relations. Also, this has turned around and they are keeping more drivers.

My friend just finished his first 2 weeks out in a team truck for Schneider. 7800 @.31 a mile. miles you drive not the miles the truck moves. And then only the paid miles on the work assignment. They averaged a total of 920 miles a day and were told they needed to do better. Interesting. Traffic, shipper problems, consignee problems not withstanding WE have to do better.... Don't even mention the fact that your STL is a total retard. They tried to screw them out of their guaranteed time at home. He was told his son would "understand" if He didn't make it to his graduation. He reminded them of the in writing commitment they made to him. He was then told it was a "guideline" not a firm promise. He was then reminded of his commitment to them that if he didn't measure up and they would terminate him. He would have to repay his training. He then pointed out He didn't sign a contract to that effect and that they aren't in a position to dictate squat to him. Anyway some phone lines got heated up and sure enough! They don't have a signed contract from him..... Oooops. So him and his team partner was able to make home as promise. Green Bay, WI

Bottom line you have to fight tooth and nail or these trucking companies will walk all over you.

A lot of the bigger companies could care less about the driver because they'll replace you within 15 minutes of you leaving. There are too many drivers out there for them to worry about you or what you care. Overall the conditions of the big companies are OK but don't count on any special attention or any attention at all as far as I have heard... I like the smaller companies that you can be on a first name basis with everyone!

Yeah, I guess the bigger companies always have a line of people waiting to fill a spot. I never consider the pros and cons of working for a bigger or smaller company. I guess I will take this in consideration in my quest for work.

Yah I own a few trucks, The Pete is just my baby, and we take very good care of our drivers. If you wanna work hard and you put a little extra effort in it doesn't go unnoticed like it would for a bigger company. We're proud of our drivers!

I've been with Schneider about 9 years - although I had intended to be here "only a year to get some experience"!

I only ran the system for 9 months, before getting a local run for Chrysler, so I can see where some people may have felt like they were just a number. But, I have been treated really well - I'm sure that has a lot to do with being on a dedicated account and being treated like a person, not a number. Of course, I'm a helluva nice guy, so maybe that helps, too!

Actually no, it was hauling parts to the Chrysler plant in Newark, DE where they make the Durango. When they changed the design a few years back, they no longer needed the parts I hauled, so that run went away. Now I'm REALLY local, running between Worcester, Lawrence, and Needham every day, hauling cans.

No, I'm dedicated out the Crown Cork & Seal plant in Lawrence. I run to Polar Beverage in Worcester, as well as Coca-Cola in Needham. Nice thing is, is we're self - managed on this account - my dispatcher and support staff are in Preston, MD. Our closest "real" terminal is in Carlisle, PA, although we have a large off-site facility at JC Penny in Manchester, CT right of off I-84.

I was down in Kearny NJ the other day and I saw a SEA of orange trailers at a yard down there, must be some sort of small Schneider terminal, or a big customer of theirs

Exactly - we have a drop yard in Kearny, and we have drivers based out of that yard, running local for the most part.

No Kiddin'

by DangerDanNH » Sep. 22, 7:00 pm

I dont live in mass but I work for a small company in Pepperell that runs 4 old Middlesex TriAxle dumps and one dump trailer; all Macks, for Aggregate Industries. I TOTALLY agree about driving for small companies. Your on a name by name basis with the owner and not just another number. I never know where Im going the next day till I get to my first plant in the morning. Normal starting asphalt plants are: CHELMSFORD, ASHLAND, SHREWBURY, WRENTHAM, SAUGAS, and PEABODY. I hate the last two cause they mean working in Boston and I dont know my way around. At the same time I do want to get out and experience the BIG ROAD and get paid to travel and see america. I would rather be an owner operator but dont have the credit for it right now and cant talk with my father who was an O/O cause we dont get along. So I am looking at the lesser of the two evils by working for a company like hunt, smith, etc. any advice on where to find drivers to talk too to weigh their experiences?

Thanks Dan

It's my understanding that Schneider Logistics, if you have a really good safety rating, has lots of good paying freight for O/O's and small fleet owners. The trick is getting your "in" with them.

They're like all big companies, they have their good and their bad. It all comes down to what a driver is comfortable putting up with.

first thing i'd do...

by Wild Turkey » Nov. 02, 10:32 am

is learn to spell "Schneider" correctly!

Other than that, from what i know, it's one of the better outfits to work for. And their "academy" is well worth the effort...

Sooo the reason "driver shortage" actualy is the driver rotation from one job to another because they get screwed, not because there are not enough drivers out there?

It is both.

There are many drivers out there, there are few good ones. Wouldn't you agree PeteNasty?

Yah Rainman. There is an incredible turnover rate in the industry as it is. It takes a certain breed of person to really commit to the life they expect of you. Not many people stay with a long haul company for a lifetime. I wouldn't last more than a year or two with the kind of stories I hear.

The other thing I noticed is that these Big companies are just gateway companies. Guys come and get their 6-12 months of "OTR" experience and move onto a better company.

Schneider National

by wiltz3 » Apr. 01, 10:55 pm

I worked for Schneider for about 5 years and had a great experience with them as a company driver. I started out pulling dry box for about 6 months and was bored out of my mind. I wanted to do something different . . . and went to Schneider's tanker school in Coropolis,PA (Iron City) Enjoyed every bit of pulling tanks. I now have a Government job and drive a gas truck part-time, because I miss being behind the wheel of a big truck.

I drove for Schneider, was doing great...until they started switching dispatchers on me. In 7 months I had 5 different dispatchers, and none of them had a clue about driving. I had one tell me that I had to make a 14 hour trip in 11 hours or I would get a service failure. I don't know about other drivers, but I try hard not to run illegal, but sometimes you don't have much of a choice. Overall, I enjoyed driving for them, didn't really have too many problems.. The last month I drove for them was the worst, but you live and learn. I was finally "let go", after jackknifing in Laredo. Fortunately, nobody else was involved, and I walked away. By the grace of God. So, a year later, I'm not driving, getting ready to go back to school and switch careers. I was told I'd have to wait at least 3 years until the 2 minor incidents and the jackknife were cleared off my DAC. None of them are listed on my DMV records. I'd like to drive again, but I can't afford to wait that long. So, for now I'm doing something else....

i started with schneider hauling tankers. great driving experience but a bad idea for a newbie. way way too much work for someone who is just learning. i had a heck of a time getting my earned home time (which is why i quit). my 4 days earned was being reduced to 1. unacceptable. also the bulk division doesnt route off the qualcomm and if you cant afford a gps unit you have to do everything off the map. which isnt the problem. the problem was if you dont take the state routes and cut-offs and every back road that a trainer prescribed for the route then you will have several out of route miles, for which you get talked to about. my reply to it was "if i dont know the easiest route then i have to find it. if i take too much time finding it, then it cuts into whatever sleep i can get with the qualcomm blowing up asking my status or whetever else they send." i wish i had started with teams.

Schneider would not even give me a chance as a student driver and im so glad they didnt because now i have a job with a major company as a student driver making great $$$$.All i can say is just because these minor league companys dont give you a chance , never give up because theres always somebody bigger with something better. good luck to you all

I applied at Schneider-went thru all the tests and was told I dint pass the physical because I didnt lift the 40lb basket over my head. All the others were ok. I cant figure why you have to pass everything 100 per cent is all.
