I am not sure on how much help I can be because I don't know much about local jobs, but I have heard of some ppl trying to go over the road and all they have done is local, so I believe you should be able to find something you will just have to keep looking.
I understand it is hard to be away from you family and go over the road, but you might think about doing it for a year. You can find a company that will get you home 2 days a week (not always on sat and sun) by going regional, that is not going all 48 states, just your surrounding states.
I can tell you this, I would'nt recommend Swift Transportation normally due to their low start pay, but depending on where you live they may have an excellent run for you. They do have a training program for people that are just comming out of school with their CDL. My mom's husband drove for them out of Albuquerque, N.M. where Swift has a terminal. He drove what is called the Shuttle program. He drove from Albuquerque, N.M. to Ammarillo,Tx. and back. He was home everyday. He drove 6 days and had 2 days off then 6 days and 2 off etc. Plus you get payed over the road pay. You should see if they have a terminal close to you and how long it takes to get into the shuttle program.
I worked for KLLM Transport and I liked them verry much. They haul refrigerated, they also have a dry box division. You would need to get hazmat endorsment first.
Good Luck to you and be safe. I hope you find somethin that will work out well.
