The Truck Stop : Novice question on loading docks

Novice question on loading docks

by fp4219 » Dec. 12, 6:12 pm

I am starting a new business in which I will be receiving full truck loads of product on pallets. They won't be very heavy. I am looking for a building now and wondered how important it was to get a loading dock versus a drive in door. Can a drive in door work if I have a fort truck? I can't seem to get a straight answer from the leasing agents, so I thought I would ask the professionals. I thank you for your time.

The best way to unload is the dock, but it is not mandatory. Drivers are mostly concerned with having enough room to get into your business.

Loads can be unloaded anywhere, it is just a matter of how fast and how easy.

Some of the places I deliver to use a pallet jack to get the pallets to the end of the trailer then use the forklift to remove them. One place used a chain they hooked to the pallet then dragged the pallet to the foot of the trailer with a forklift.
