Ok, I will state this up front, I own a 387 so I am partial. Now for a run down of the good and bad with both trucks as I have driven both for extended time.
Now the good of both.....
Volvo 670
Better fuel economy 6.5 to 7.9 depending on the engine, driveline, and driving habits.
An above average suspension allows for a "smoother ride", and leads to less uneven steer tire wear.
Pete 387
A superb ride.... Peterbilt low leaf air suspension is 2nd to NONE!
The Paccar standard C-15 engine, 13 speed transmission combination can be geared to out perform any other truck when it comes to pulling and overall dependability.
Lower exterior noise! The cab is not drowned out with road noise, and the dash doesn't shake like a p.o.s freightliner.
Everything else positive about these two trucks are similar. Both have alot of interior room. Both have the common "luxuries" Cd player, sleeper clock and alarm, bunk fan overide, the ability to add a fridge and microwave without taking up alot of space.
Now the negatives
670..... It is a rattlebox when put side by side with the 387. Lots of road noise, and shakes like a strippers hips.
Known Electrical NIGHTMARE! After a little age replacing ECM's and tracking down wiring problems are common place.
387..... less fuel economy than the 670. 6.2 mpg is a great day but rare even with additive and the 3000d
Well thats about it. The 387 wins hands down in my book. It's like driving a powerful car. Smooth, quiet, strong, dependable.
